STE ALVERE AND THE DORDOGNE FRANCE

Ste Alvere is situated in the heart of the Perigord in the delightful department of the Dordogne close to the popular market town of Le Bugue.
The local village of Ste. Alvere, which is the truffle centre of France, has bakers,butchers, bank, post office, Drs , chemist etc.

Out and about in the Dordogne

The Perigord is quoted as the Pays des 1001 Chateaux (in reality more than 1300 are registered !),so Beynac, Castelnaud, Losse, Hautefort, Lanquais are quite close, as well as the old English and French bastide towns of Domme, Monpazier, Villefranche du Perigord,the medieval villages of La Roque-Gajeac, Issigeac..old churches and abbeys (Paunat, Cadouin, Tremolat..), well restored cities (Sarlat, Perigueux, Bergerac..). The vineyards of the Bergeracois (Pecharmant, Monbazillac, Montravel..), Cahors and Saint Emilion are also within easy reach.


Nearby facilities exist for golf, tennis, canoeing, 'gabarre 'cruises, fishing, horse riding, balloon flights, country biking and rambling, etc

Colourful day and night markets take place more or less in any village and town and there is every year all over this area a wealth of exhibitions and fairs, musical and folkloric festivals, antique and attic sales, outdoor shows and traditional celebrations, events of all kind.

The traditional cuisine and gastronomy is another world to explore in small country or 1st class restaurants to enjoy the duck and goose specialities as well as all the other local products : veal, truffles, cepes, walnuts , strawberries.

Tourist information is in each property showing all the best locations to visit.If it is country walks you prefer the Mairie at Ste Alvere provide good maps of local footpaths there are 5 circuits between 4 and 11 kms.

There is a golf course at La Marterie.A Fun Park/farm for youngsters Parc Jacqou is just a 10 min drive.

You can do all the above or just relax by the pool,enjoy the peaceful situation and watch the many butterfly's and maybe a deer wander into the garden.
